Library E-Resources Access Policy
This policy outlines the terms and conditions under which patrons of IIM Visakhapatnam are granted access to the library e-resources of the Learning Resource Centre.
The objective of this policy is to facilitate continuous learning by providing access to electronic resources that support academic, research, and professional development.
Fair Use Policy for Subscribed Electronic Content
All electronic resources provided by the Learning Resource Centre are strictly for academic use and governed by license agreements. Users are responsible for ensuring compliance with these agreements and applicable copyright laws.
Scope of Access
- Access is permitted only for personal, academic, and research purposes.
- Sharing of login credentials with unauthorized users is prohibited.
- Bulk downloading, systematic retrieval, or automated extraction of content is not allowed.
- Printing and downloading must comply with publisher limits and fair-use policies.
- Access to bibliographic databases and citation tools may be limited.
Ethical Guidelines and Compliance
Users must adhere to institutional policies, licensing agreements, and copyright laws. Redistribution, reproduction, or commercial use of licensed content is strictly prohibited.
Prohibited Uses
- Systematic or programmatic downloading or printing of journal issues or books.
- Electronic distribution of content outside the institution or to large groups.
- Posting publisher PDFs on personal or public websites.
- Uploading publisher versions of articles to open class websites (use URLs instead).
- Reproducing large portions of articles or book chapters.
- Uploading copyrighted material to public platforms or social media.
- Commercial use or resale of licensed resources.
- Providing access to unauthorized users using institutional credentials.
- Any violation may lead to suspension of access, legal action, or disciplinary measures.
Users are expected to utilize library resources responsibly and ethically.
Consequences of License Violation
Publishers monitor institutional usage of electronic resources. Any misuse is reported to the institution and may result in temporary or complete suspension of access to all resources from the concerned publisher until corrective action is taken.
Copyright Warning on E-Resources Usage
Permitted Use
- Viewing, downloading, printing, and saving individual articles.
- Using resources for teaching, research, private study, and academic purposes.
- Sharing articles with other authorized faculty, students, or staff.
- Posting URLs (not PDFs) to articles on class websites.
Prohibited / Illegal Use
- Use of robots or automated tools for bulk downloading.
- Downloading or printing entire journal issues or volumes.
- Commercial use, redistribution, or republication of content.
- Sharing content with unauthorized users or mailing lists.
- Posting publisher PDFs on open-access platforms.
Eligibility Criteria – Regular Programs
- Students enrolled in regular academic programs
- Research scholars enrolled in regular programs
- Faculty members of IIM Visakhapatnam
- Staff members of IIM Visakhapatnam
The above categories are eligible for full access to all print and electronic resources subscribed by the institution.
Eligibility Criteria – Other Members
These users may access selected library resources within library premises using a valid IIMV email ID and approval from competent authorities. Certain databases are restricted.
Alumni
- Must have completed an academic program at IIM Visakhapatnam.
- No outstanding library dues.
- Valid alumni credentials or proof of graduation required.
Executive Program Participants
- Enrolled in executive education or certificate programs (e.g., SIDBI, EEP).
- Access limited to the duration of the program.
- Proof of enrollment or completion required.
*Researchers, visiting scholars/faculty, or industry professionals affiliated with the institution may be granted limited access upon approval.
** The library reserves the right to suspend or terminate access at any time without prior notice.
*** No access to Remote Access facility shall be granted to the users others than the regularly enrolled students.
