IIM Visakhapatnam Takes a Leap Towards AI-Integrated Management Education
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) has embarked on a new chapter of AI-integrated management education through a first-of-its-kind, large-scale initiative to embed Agentic AI applications and interventions across management disciplines.
The initiative was jumpstarted with an intensive 55-day AI Hackathon 2026, bringing together 225 students across 45 teams and faculty members to explore innovative applications of artificial intelligence across 11 management areas, including Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems, and Management Communication.
Organised around the theme “Build for Real Impact,” the Hackathon encouraged participants to identify real-world challenges and develop AI-driven solutions under the mentorship of faculty members.
The initiative featured expert-led sessions and the development of simulations and Agentic AI systems, demonstrating how AI can be integrated into discipline-specific management learning and practical problem-solving.
Delivering the welcome address at the concluding ceremony, Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, Dean (Academics), highlighted the growing role of Agentic AI and the importance of maintaining human oversight, accountability, and control through a human-in-the-loop approach.
Prof. Shivshanker Singh Patel, PGP Chair, emphasised the importance of accountability and control in the responsible adoption of AI. Prof. Rambalak Yadav, PhD Chair, highlighted the rapid evolution of AI technologies and the need for continuous learning.
Addressing the participants, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam, appreciated the scale of the initiative and emphasised India's unique position in AI adoption, adaptation to local applications, and development of advanced models. He highlighted India's linguistic diversity, contextual knowledge, and enterprise expertise as strategic advantages in developing indigenous AI solutions. He encouraged participants to move beyond technological sophistication towards creating economically valuable solutions addressing real-world challenges.
Prof. M. Chandrasekhar presided over the awards ceremony, recognising the winning and runner-up teams across the 11 management areas, with cash prizes of ₹10,000 and ₹5,000, respectively, in each area. The AI Champion Trophy was awarded to the Management Communication area for developing a C-suite-focused Agentic AI communication tool designed to facilitate credible and effective articulation during board-level meetings, with the potential to reduce communication frictions and enable better risk management in corporate decision-making.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Rishi, reaffirming IIM Visakhapatnam's commitment to interdisciplinary learning, responsible AI adoption, technological innovation, and practical problem-solving.
