Message from the Director
Dear young professional,
Greetings!
If you want a rare and valuable career, you should first acquire rare and valuable skills” writes Cal Newport (PhD: MIT, Professor of Computer Science in Georgetown University, US), in his book “So Good, They Can’t Ignore You”.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 describes the labour market transformation now underway as the most significant since the industrial revolution.
By 2030, the report estimates that 170 Mn. new roles will be created globally while 92 Mn. existing ones will be displaced, a net gain of 78 Mn. jobs. The opportunity therefore is real. But so is the disruption, and it will not spare the professions that technical school graduates have traditionally stepped into.
An engineering or technology degree today is looked at by the industry as an essential but not a sufficient criterion for hiring. The enterprises of today need a manager who hits the ground running from day-1, understanding the business and what drives it. How he/she emerges in quick time as an adept leader. One who understands strategy and policy; productivity and profitability; risks and returns. One who can contribute to social and environmental value.
It is precisely this set of rare and valuable skills that the PGPMCI (Post Graduate Program in Management for Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) – Institutions of National Importance (INIs) of IIM Visakhapatnam brings to the students and recently graduated alumni of CFTIs. It is management knowledge layered on technical expertise that helps you take informed decisions in critical contexts and complex operational circumstances. By extracting signal from noise. By translating insights into action that moves the workplace into high gear.
With its unique features of modular approach and online mode of offering, PGPMCI, now into its fourth batch, brings to the students a pathway to success that no other institution in India does.
Just imagine. A BTech or an MTech from an NIT or IIIT with an MBA from the prestigious IIM Visakhapatnam. All in five years from 12th standard. That’s power in your hands. To be diligent. To be discerning. To be decisive. To be the change champion in business, government and society.
Let not the opportunity pass. It’s your entry ticket to the c-suite.

An early advantage for a techno-managerial career
Welcome to the Post Graduate Programme in Management for Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions of National Importance (PGPMCI) at IIM Visakhapatnam.
As we invite applications for the fourth cohort—the 2027–29 batch—PGPMCI continues to strengthen its distinctive proposition: enabling technically trained students and recent graduates to complement their domain expertise with management capabilities early in their professional journey.
The programme has grown steadily in scale, reach, and diversity. The third cohort enrolled 78 participants from 26 CFTIs across the country, bringing together students and graduates from varied technical disciplines, institutions, and regions.
From the 2027 admission cycle, recent graduates of eligible B.Tech., M.Tech., B.Arch., and M.Arch. programmes from all Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions of National Importance—including IITs, NITs, IIITs, IISc, IISERs, SPAs, NITTTRs, NERIST, SLIET, NIAMT, and GKCIET—may apply to the programme. Current students pursuing these programmes will be eligible where their institution has entered into a formal MoU with IIM Visakhapatnam as a Partnering Technical Institution.
PGPMCI offers a flexible and progressive pathway through the Diploma in Business Management, followed by the opportunity to pursue an MBA after completing the qualifying technical degree. Delivered through live online classes during evenings and weekends, the programme enables participants to pursue management education with minimal disruption to their ongoing studies or professional commitments.
The learning experience now extends significantly beyond the virtual classroom. A first-year campus immersion has been introduced to provide participants with deeper engagement with faculty, peers, and the IIM Visakhapatnam ecosystem. It also enables participants from different cohorts to interact, collaborate, and build lasting professional networks.
The programme has further strengthened its career support services through one-to-one résumé guidance, training-needs assessment, mock interviews, sector-focused workshops, job-role-based training, and other career-readiness interventions. Graduating participants have also begun securing opportunities with reputed corporate organisations, reinforcing the value of combining technical expertise with management education.
Another important addition is a student-led flagship national ideathon and conference centred on a contemporary issue of national importance. The inaugural theme, “Energy Security of India,” will provide participants with a platform to examine complex challenges, develop innovative solutions, and engage with experts, institutions, and fellow students from across the country.
PGPMCI is not merely an additional qualification. It is an opportunity to broaden your perspective, strengthen your managerial and career readiness, and accelerate your professional growth while retaining the advantage of your technical foundation.
I invite you to join the 2027–29 cohort and take an early, informed step towards a future-ready techno-managerial career.
